Bucket Elevators and Aeromechanical Conveyors: Where to Use

Bucket Elevators and Aeromechanical Conveyors

Bucket Elevators and Aeromechanical Conveyors

When looking for a machine that can efficiently move materials in bulk vertically, bucket conveyors and elevators can come to your rescue. These machines can be the perfect addition to your work in order to improve efficiency. In this blog, we explore where bucket elevators and aeromechanical conveyors are used and how to decide which one to choose.

Bucket Elevators

Like conveyor belts, bucket elevators move material in bulk vertically. This is done by attaching buckets to a rotating belt, filling the bucket with the required material at the bottom of the elevator, and then moving it to the desired point. At the desired location, the bucket empties the contents and then returns to the starting point. That is how the process runs and continues.
Storage silos are typically seen in feed mills. Usually, bucket elevators are used to fill them. This is because the materials need to be loaded at the top of the silo. Many times, it is possible that a single bucket elevator will be utilized to load two different silos. This is done in order to reduce how much equipment is present on the site. In order to do so, a diverter valve is used. It is fitted to the discharge of the bucket elevator, thereby enabling the material to be directed to the correct silo without any cross-contamination.

Our bucket elevators are designed to handle a variety of bulk materials – whether they are average or free-flowing. We also have a range of buckets and casing sizes that are available for capacities up to 15,000 cubic feet per hour. They are enclosed completely and ensure weather-tight operations.

Aeromechanical Conveyors

A fluidized airstream that is generated by a series of discs that are mounted onto a wire rope is the principle that drives aeromechanical conveyors. Working on this principle, the aeromechanical conveyors can easily and efficiently move reasonable amounts of material around.
Aeromechanical conveyors, also known as ‘rope and disc’ conveyors, have the following parts: a tube that is fully enclosed and a series of discs that are attached to a wire rope. The discs and the rope travel at a very high speed in the tube, and this creates an airstream with very high velocity. Thereafter, the airstream can pull the material into the conveyor and pass it through the conveyor. The conveyor, therefore, ends up working in a way that mimics pneumatic conveyors.
To decide where aeromechanical conveyors work, it is necessary to consider the pros and cons of using it. aeromechanical conveyors do not cause contamination of the product and contain the dust effectively because the tube is fully enclosed. They also have the benefit of being able to convey at a wide-angle range – from 0 to 90 degrees. Furthermore, they require very low energy and do not need mixtures to be separated. On the other hand, the maintenance costs of aeromechanical conveyors can be quite high. Additionally, aeromechanical conveyors need the feed to be controlled and they cannot start or stop when under a full load. Keeping these pros and cons in mind can help you decide whether aeromechanical conveyors are the right option for you.
Aeromechanical conveyors would work well for material that is dusty and dry. They are also useful when there are some heavy materials which need to be moved. Materials that have the consistency of sludge, or are wet and sticky should not be used with these conveyors.

Our aeromechanical conveyors are the perfect dust-free solution to handle food and chemical materials.

Here, at Material Dynamics Carolinas, we have specialized equipment that can be used to handle materials that are dry and solid. Specifically, we cater to four major industries: plastics, foods, chemicals, and minerals. For all the companies that we represent, we cover North as well as South Carolina.

We offer a wide variety of product offerings: mechanical conveying, pneumatic conveying, process equipment, and storage and dust collection. You can explore all of our equipment as well.
